Kids usually want to do everything that we (the grown-ups) do. At least my kids. So, while making the geoboard the other day, both V and baby Z were importuning me to let them hammer the nails as well. Since the wood log for the geoboard was to hard, I found this small wood board that was soft enough for little hands.
We used large nails so that small hands can hold them easily, and a large but a lightweight wood hammer (that we use for meat). V didn't miss a nail. Ha!
But, there is another kid oround here that always cries - 'Let me do it, too!' - so here is the same activity set up for a two-years-old girl. The same lightweight wood hammer, clay and some sticks.
Međutim, ovde imamo i jednu malu devojčicu koja stalno traži da radi sve što radi i njen strariji brat, pa sam ovu aktivnost ovako prilagodila njoj: isti drveni lagani čekić, glina umesto drvene pločice i grančice.

I love this idea, I am hoping to introduce my class to this in the coming school year & got some hammers & nails just for this. I like the clay & twigs as a way of introducing it too. We had great fun last year with pumpkins & golf tees!!
Vera, I featured your post as my favourite from the last outdoor play link up & wondered if you would like to add this one too? Please grab the 'featured button' if you want too as well. Thanks Kierna.

clay and twigs - genius. My son would love this activity. We do it with golf tees and playdough and a hammer but your version is so much more in tune with nature
Thank you :)
Just love the idea of using clay and twigs to practice hammering for those kids not yet ready to use a hammer and nails! Thanks for linking up to the Outdoor Play Party!
Love this so much that I featured it on my site. I have never seen this idea for the very young before and think it is brilliant. I am slowly collecting play ideas from everywhere. одличан
